I am an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and curator from Portland, Oregon. I have used a conceptual remixing methodology across many disciplines for over two decades, working primarily with installation, video, photography, and hand cut collage.
For the last several years, I have been focused on exploring these issues through 3D virtual worlds. Pearl Hyacinth is a nomadic multiverse avatar and representative for me within the metaverse. Pearl has been building, curating, and making work within existing social, creative, virtual 3D worlds since 2018. Much of this work took place within the context and with the support of the University of New South Wales during practice based research for an unfinished PhD (2019-2023).
I have been represented by Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland for twenty years. I have an MFA in Electronic Integrated Arts, a MA in Environmental Arts and Humanities, and a BA in photography. I have exhibited in film festivals, galleries, and museums, and have been awarded ten different artist residency fellowships around the world, including in Paris, Austria, Iceland, Switzerland, and Quebec.
My main focus is on exploring technology, ecology and the embodied perception and communication of reality as manifested in all different types of living forms. I am specifically interested in the voices and languages of bird, insect, and animal species, and the interconnected and entangled nature of us – including mycelium, moss, and plant life. I mix conceptual “poetry” with ideas around ecology and technology to examine these issues.
